- The purpose of the RUN FOR MILITARY FAMILIES is to raise awareness and funds for the Petawawa Military Family Resource Centre (PMFRC) – a non-profit agency whose mission is to enrich the lives of individuals and families of the military community through positive action, education and support. For more information about the PMFRC and its programs, please visit www.pmfrc.org.
- The Lead Sponsor and Organizer of the RUN FOR MILITARY FAMILIES is Commissionaires Ottawa – a private, not-for-profit company that employs about 3,500 private security professionals. It offers a comprehensive range of identification, enforcement, training and security solutions and is contracted at about 500 private and public sector client sites in the National Capital Region, Petawawa and across Northern Ontario. As part of its social mandate, Commissionaires Ottawa has been focused on hiring former and serving military personnel since 1939. It also hires RCMP veterans and other security-focused citizens who share a passion to safeguard their fellow Canadians. Commissionaires Ottawa is proud to integrate and honour a military culture that has been as much of a contributing factor to its leadership in the private security industry as it has been a fitting salute to those who share a passion to protect Canada’s freedom and peaceful way of life.
- This is the third time that Commissionaires Ottawa and CFB Petawawa have come together to plan an event that assists military families. CFB Petawawa is one of Canada's leading Army Bases. It is proud home to 6,000 military personnel, 7,000 family members and 1000 civilian employees. CFB Petawawa has and continues to provide relevant, responsive and effective garrison support to formations and lodger units. The Base has also been involved in many operations throughout the world including tours in Afghanistan and Bosnia.
- The concept for RUN FOR MILITARY FAMILIES was inspired by Commissionaires Ottawa Inspector Moe St-Louis, who spent over 32 years in the military and has been a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for over 30 years. His daughter Christine is an OPP Constable and her husband WO Chesley Reid is with the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery in Petawawa - having served in troubled countries like Rwanda and Afghanistan over the course of his 20-year military career. Together they have three children: Zachary (age 9), Joshua (age 7) and Chloe (age 4). The family is featured on posters created to promote the event.
- When a soldier is deployed, the biggest concern is knowing his or her family is being looked after at home. This event shows our military families that they are not forgotten.
