Commissionaires Ottawa is a private, not-for-profit organization that employs about 3,500 security professionals. The organization offers a comprehensive range of identification, enforcement, training and security solutions and is contracted at over 200 private and public sector client sites in the National Capital Region, Petawawa and across Northern Ontario. As part of its social mandate, Commissionaires Ottawa has been focused on hiring former and serving military personnel since 1939. It also hires RCMP veterans and other security-focused citizens who share a passion to safeguard their fellow Canadians. Commissionaires Ottawa is proud to integrate and honour a military culture that has been as much of a contributing factor to its leadership in the private security industry as it has been a fitting salute to those who share a passion to protect Canada’s freedom and peaceful way of life.
-
CFB Petawawa is one of Canada's leading Army Bases. It is proud home to 5,100 military personnel, 7,700 family members and 1000 civilian employees. CFB Petawawa has and continues to provide relevant, responsive and effective garrison support to formations and lodger units. The Base has also been involved in many operations throughout the world including tours in Afghanistan and Bosnia.
-
This is the first time that Commissionaires Ottawa and CFB Petawawa have come together to plan an event that assists military families. They are very excited about this partnership as well as the number of volunteers who have already committed themselves to this worthy cause.
-
The concept for RUN FOR MILITARY FAMILIES was inspired by Commissionaires Ottawa Inspector Moe St-Louis (CWO, ret’d) who spent over 32 years in the military and has been a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 30 years. His daughter Christine is an OPP Constable and her husband Sgt Chesley Reid is with the Artillery in Petawawa - having served in troubled countries like Rwanda and Afghanistan over the course of a nearly 20-year military career. Together they have three children: Zachary (age 7), Joshua (age 5) and Chloe (age 2). The family is featured on posters created to promote the event (found at www.commissionaires-ottawa.on.ca).
-
Moe and his son, Patrick, will be part of the running teams during the two-day RUN FOR MILITARY FAMILIES event. Moe’s daughter Christine and her family will join them on May 10 for the last leg of the run – when supporters, donors, veterans and military families gathered at the Royal Canadian Legion (Br. 517) in Petawawa will be invited to run or walk behind the runners to the nearby finish line at Dundonald Hall, CFB Petawawa.
-
As the lead sponsor and organizer for the RUN FOR MILITARY FAMILIES, Commissionaires Ottawa has been reaching out to citizens and businesses for a monetary contribution in support of the PMFRC. Full event details can be accessed via www.commissionaires-ottawa.on.ca.
